Have you been an activist in your union, community, or school? Been dying to get your ideas about a movement effort out to others on YouTube, Vimeo, or another platform? The Activist Filmmaker Bootcamp can help move you from complete inexperience and fear of filming to making your first short documentary or narrative film. We'll have Bootcamp partnerThird World Newsreelthis season, who will talk about how to get your finished film distributed and how to make your production shine like a pro.
The most exciting part of each Bootcamp is the mentoring provided by emerging activist filmmakers to new attendees. This year we are so lucky to have the following filmmakers present:
Yung-Jen Yang and JT Takagi, Third World Newsreel
Sean Claffey(Americonned)
Hazel Gurland-Pooler(Storming Caesars Palace)
Victorious De Costa(Digging for Weldon Irvine, Yusuf Kawkins: Storm Over Brooklyn)
These filmmakers have been where you are now, with an idea and not much else. They had lots of questions, some fear, but excitement and drive to take that next step to tell the story in their heads and get it up on a big screen and out over online distribution. They are here to answer questions, show clips from their work, and demonstrate that once you start, get great advice and face down your fear - nothing can stop you from making that transition from activist to filmmaker. Join us!
Hosted by WUFF13 filmmaker and professor,Peter Lucas(Campo de Santana: Paradise In the Middle of Chaos).
