About this event

Hosted by the ILHS, National Park Service, Historic Pullman Foundation, and the Chicago Jobs with Justice Workers' Rights Board.

Complimentary pizza and light refreshments will be provided.
Let's come together to celebrate labor history and community. In the early 1880s, when the first Pullman railroad car rolled off the production line, the workers lived in a company town and paid their rents to Pullman. In 1981, the workers of United Steelworkers Local 1834 tried to keep Pullman open to save their jobs in a time when industry was leaving Chicago and the US.
The Last Pullman Car is about 100 years of workers' struggles.
Following the film, there will be a Q&A and discussion including two USW union members who appear in the film: John Bowman, Local 1834 President and George Terrell, Local 1834 Staff, along with guest speakers Ray and Al Quiroz, who are both ex-employees of Pullman-Standard Company, having worked there from 1959 to 1981.
THINGS IN PULLMAN TO DO BEFORE THE MOVIE: In honor of the 130th anniversary of the Strike of 1894, the Historic Pullman Foundation and the US National Park Service offer a unique look at Pullman and its history. On Saturday, June 22, from 1 to 1:30 PM, explore the NPS Visitor Center. Take a tour with a Park Ranger at 2 PM. Please call 773-928-7257 to reserve your spot. Then go to the HPF Pullman Exhibit Hall to explore the exhibit Passion and Pride: People of the Pullman Strike at 3:15 PM. HPF Pullman Exhibit Hall 11141 S. Cottage Grove Ave., Chicago, IL
