“Tireless champion” John Flynn passes

Lawrence Smoot | Published on 2/18/2025

Retired Bricklayers president John J. Flynn passed away on February 12. “John and his wife Joyce were trade unionists to their core and passionate supporters of the Labor Heritage Foundation,” said former LHF Executive Director Elise Bryant, who worked closely with both for years. “A tireless champion for workers, John believed deeply in the importance of labor arts and was always generous with his guidance. LHF is better today because of both John and Joyce and we share in the sadness of the entire BAC family and labor movement in John’s loss.” Added LHF Board Chair Saul Schniderman, “John and Joyce helped establish LHF on its current path and we could not ever claim to be ‘the art and soul of the labor movement’ without their inspiration and support.” A proud card-carrying member of BAC for seventy-three years, Flynn “was known across his union and throughout the labor movement as a tireless champion for the fair and just treatment of workers,” said Bricklayers president Tim Driscoll.
