Dereck Stafford Mangus, Beloved Baltimore Artist and Museum Guard, Dies at 46

Dereck Stafford Mangus, a beloved Baltimore-based artist, writer, and cultural worker, passed away on Sunday, July 7 at the age of 46. Mangus worked as a museum guard as well as a prolific, award-winning writer. He leaves behind a vast collection of essays and reviews at Hyperallergic, Artblog, the Maryland Institute College of Art’s (MICA) Full Bleed, BmoreArt, and Frieze, where he was the 2018 winner of the Frieze Writer’s Prize.
