Auto-Lite Workers' Memorial Union Memorial Park; Elm & Champlain Sts. Toledo OH Tribute to the autoworkers who struck in 1934 to build the United Auto Workers (UAW). Electric Auto-Lite workers were brutally attacked by National Guardsmen, and over 200 were injured in Toledo's bloodiest labor battle. The central issues of the 1934 strike are exemplified by the signs each figure holds. The man's sign reads "Solidarity forever," the woman's "Dignity in the workplace."
Cleveland Labor History Museum & Resource Center Sidney Hillman Building, 2227 Payne Ave. Cleveland OH Cleveland's rich labor history mirrors the rest of the country from development and growth to stagnation and decline. Max S. Hayes, Peter Witt and John P. Green all contributed to the growth of Cleveland's labor movement. Cleveland labor monuments: Sloss hall, Arch hall, Grays Armory, citizen building, standard building, Sidney Hillman building and garment district. Events: Public Square & May Day Riot of 1919, Streetcar Strike of 1908 and the 1911 Garment Strike.
ICWU/URW Worker Memorial ICWU Headquarters Akron OH The International Chemical Workers Union and the United Rubber Workers Union unveiled this joint memorial on Workers Memorial Day, 1992. Dedicated to the members who have been killed, or died in workplace tragedies since 1944.
Workers Memorial City Hall & County Courthouse Lorain OH These slabs are in honor of the workers who died from workplace injuries or disease. After the slabs were presented, the facility closed down. The slabs remain as memorials to the quarry and USWA Local 3280.
